SERVE
We Help Each Other
To attend and respond to the needs of others through relevant, tangible action.
"Service is the epitome of selflessness."
- Dominique Parker, Theta Pi Omega Chapter, Cluster IV
Cluster I
Dedicated to having an impact on the health and well-being of others, the Omicron Gamma Omega sorors organized two service campaigns focused on heart health and Black mental health during the Cluster I Meeting in Baltimore, MD on November 12th.
Their efforts yielded a $2,461.92 donation to Services from the Heart, a non-profit that reduces the impact of poverty by providing food backpacks to children. In addition, Cluster I sorors donated $3,178.64 to Black Mental Health Alliance (BMHA), a non-profit focused on providing meaningful, engaging and empowering programming for members of the community.
Cluster II
Honoring the pillar of Service, the host of the Cluster II Meeting, Sigma Zeta Omega Chapter, organized a service campaign designed to address the needs of children during their meeting in Wilmington, DE on November 13th at the Chase Center.
Cluster II sorors were invited to donate Target gift cards which will be used to serve our 14,000 unhoused children in the Greater Wilmington area. As a result of their efforts, over $4,400 in gift cards were donated to the Christina School District in Newark, DE.
Cluster III
On October 29th, members of Psi Lambda Omega Chapter challenged the sorors of Cluster III to respond to a call to action by donating toiletry items to underserved communities during the Cluster III meeting. The meeting was held at the Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, NY.
Sorors in attendance graciously donated 2,138 toiletry items, which were presented to the Atrium Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, a healthcare center servicing Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods.
Cluster IV
As the first host of Cluster meetings this year, Rho Gamma Omega Chapter set the bar high by organizing a service project geared to address the needs of the homeless. The meeting was held at The Hanover Manor in East Hanover, NJ.
Attendees were invited to donate Target and Walmart gift cards to support the Isaiah House, a community institution dedicated to reducing the prevalence of homelessness throughout Essex County, NJ. Sorors donated over $5,600 in gift cards.
Cluster V
The sorors of Cluster V closed out the meeting season by providing an opportunity to impact change in the homeless community. Hosted by the sorors of Omicron Upsilon Omega Chapter, the meeting was held at the UCONN-Stamford campus with approximately 281 sorors attending in person and over 1,400 attending virtually. Held on November 19th, this was the first hybrid meeting hosted by the F.I.R.S.T. Administration.
Sorors in attendance donated over $2,160 in gift cards to Inspirica, one of the largest providers of service to the homeless in Connecticut.
Undergraduates
Volunteer. Donate. Educate. The North Atlantic undergraduates participated in National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, November 12th-18th. The F.I.R.S.T. #HHWeek campaign raised awareness on solutions. The #HHAW campaign highlighted startling facts, including 44 million Americans are at risk of suffering from hunger and 14% of college students have experienced homelessness. The F.I.R.S.T. undergraduates are calling on the region to take action. Kudos to our undergraduates for putting service FIRST!
Are you an Elected Officer?
In the past decade, we've seen an increase in women’s political power and leadership. Across the region, Alpha Kappa Alpha women are serving at every level. The F.I.R.S.T. Administration wants to capture and highlight all sorors who are public servants. Please complete the North Atlantic Region Elected or Appointed Officials Form.
