Letters from our Editors

Dr. Angela Davis powerfully reminds us, “Black women have had to develop a larger vision of our society than perhaps any other group. They have had to understand white men, white women, and Black men. And they have had to understand themselves. When Black women win victories, it is a boost for virtually every segment of society.” The 2024 General Election will remind our nation once again how #BlackWomenLead.
Since 1908, the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha have stood at the forefront of change, tirelessly advancing our ancestral vision of an enduring sisterhood that renders trajector-changing service. Project 1908 celebrates how sorors and chapters put public service and social action FIRST. From organizing voter education campaigns and registration drives to cultivating generations of dedicated public servants, such as Congresswoman Lauren Underwood and strategists like Soror Glynda Carr and Soror Holli Holliday, the Notable North Atlantic continues to SOAR with excellence, ensuring our communities are empowered and ready to make their voices heard.
We are approaching one of the most critical elections in our history—sorors, are you ready? Don’t forget to Take 4 or More to the Polls!
Soror Brittney L. Yancy,
Editor-in-Chief
Epsilon Omicron Omega

As women, and most importantly as women of color, our way to the ballot box was a road paved with sacrifice, hardship, hope, and the fight for our fundamental right to be heard in this world; to assert our universal right for liberty, equity, and justice. Project 1908 is our guidepost. Let us not forget those hard won battles on American soil and the echoes of our ancestors that continually urge us to stay in the fight for freedom and democracy. As the political climate rises, we are surely on the precipice of the unknown. But what remains, and shall always be, is our determination to SOAR! ...and Soar you must, to the polls!
